We discovered an amazing resource we'd like to share with parents of young children.  Children develop the foundation for all future learning within their first five years.  Vroom helps parents turn shared moments into brain-building moments that nurture your child's growing mind.   The website has great resources, including tools and activities, and the science behind brain development.

Peacemaker Resources is pleased to announce an upcoming workshop “How to Create a Trauma Sensitive School,” presented by Charlene Myklebust, on Tuesday, August 9.  Char is an educational leadership consultant who has extensive experience in helping schools use a more compassionate approach to discipline and instruction.  Included in her long list of achievements is co-authoring the Mind-Up curriculum.  We could not be more pleased to bring Char to Bemidji in August!

The cost for the workshop is $40.00 per person (the fee is waived for STAR Advisors).  Space will be limited for the workshop.  Please register online using this link: https://goo.gl/WUUh43.

This workshop meets the following to renew a Minnesota (MN) teaching license: Key Warning Signs for Early-Onset Mental Illness in Children and Adolescents (MN Statutes Section 122A.09, 122A.18) Positive Behavioral Intervention Strategies (MN Statutes 122A.09).

Thanks to Women of Today volunteer facilitators from the pilot communities of Roseau and Warroad, two groups of 7th-9th grade girls were able to experience the “Girls Lead on the Go!” program in June.  A fun-filled day of activities, games, and community involvement led to the discovery of their “SuperHeroes” within themselves.

We are all a piece of the puzzle!
According to the girls who attended the events, Girls Lead on the Go! was a hit! They had fun together, and they learned a lot about themselves and their communities.

A discussion about individual strengths
Parents were able to see the excitement generated by Girls Lead on the Go! as shown by these comments on the Facebook event site:
  • So happy Haley was able go to this event. She had a blast and couldn't quit talking about it last night!
  • Ella was the same way she talked about this and how fun it was for a long time last night! Hope they have this again for the girls!
  • Catie talked about it so much, also. She showed us everything and was just so animated and excited when she got home. Thanks to you all for putting this on and for giving these girls a wonderful time. I hope it goes on again!
  • Catherine had such a blast! She couldn't stop talking about either! Thanks to everyone who volunteers their time! It sure is worth it!

Girls Lead on the Go! will be an annual event in these communities. Many girls are looking forward to attending the event again next year, and are planning to bring their friends along. Two more pilot communities have events planned for late summer and fall. The Lake of the Woods Women of Today with be sponsoring a Girls Lead on the Go! event on Saturday, August 6th, in Baudette. The Greenbush and Middle River Women of Today chapters will be teaming up to hold an event later in the fall.

Girls Lead on the Go! is an offshoot of Girls Lead which is a youth leadership program of Peacemaker Resources. The goal of both Girls Lead and Girls Lead on the Go!  is to empower and equip young women to have a positive relationship with self, others and community.  It is funded through a partnership with local community service organizations, Northwest Minnesota Women’s Fund, Northwest Minnesota Foundation, and Women’s Foundation of Minnesota.
