Peacemaker Resources assisted the Women's Foundation of Minnesota with a Listening Session held on December 7th at the American Indian Resource Center. An audience of policy makers heard from a panel of young women between the ages of 12 and 24 who shared their perspectives on growing up in this area facing the special challenges of diversity.
Candy Roberts-Salter moderated the panel, and Linsey McMurrin was one of 3 adult advocates who spoke about their perspectives. Since November 2015, the Women’s Foundation has convened six listening sessions featuring young women and advocates from the Somali and East African, American Indian, African American, Latina, Hmong and Karen, and LGBTQ and gender nonconforming communities. The sessions enabled each community to form its own panels to allow for deeper conversation around economics, racism and culture, school and education, societal and gender norms, safety, and health.
